Policy Summary

Briefcase & Handbag Protect provides the protection consumers need against the everyday issues of having a briefcase or handbag stolen or damaged. We all carry items of value around with us daily. Contained within our briefcases or handbags are valuable items wanted by thieves. This can be money, purses, wallets, electronic items such as iPods, mobile phones, blackberry’s, the actual briefcase or handbag itself. But, also the credit or bank cards and sensitive information personal to you. With Briefcase & Handbag Protect you can rest assured that we will provide not only an excellent range of services to help you in your day to day life such as Concierge Protect, but we will help you get your items replaced or identity back.

Protection and Services Provided:

  • Accidental Damage And Thefts Cover ‐ This Policy only covers briefcases and handbags up to a value of £500 and £500 in total per calendar year.
  • Lost Mobile Phone Service ‐ We will assist you in cancelling your mobile phone if lost or stolen.
  • Get Home Fast Service We will arrange for a safe taxi to collect and deliver you to an address following a named event.
  • Find me a Locksmith Service We will arrange for a qualified locksmith to attend your home or car to gain entry should your keys be lost or stolen.
  • Get a Message Home Service We will contact nominated friends or family to give information agreed with you in the event you need assistance following a named event.
  • Emergency Interpretation Service Will arrange an interpretation company or person for you in the event you need help.
  • Emergency Legal Service We will locate a qualified lawyer should you require one to assist in your loss.
  • Medical Emergency Service We will arrange for Medical Counselling or Referral where required following a named event.
  • Lost or Stolen Card Service We will provide assistance where cards are lost or stolen such as reporting to card issuer, provide details of the legalities surrounding the loss, obtain crime reference number where applicable.
  • Emergency Funds Service We will arrange for emergency cash to be sent to you from your nominated source, in the event you need cash following a named event.
  • Emergency Travellers Cheque Replacement Service We will provide assistance where international traveller’s cheques have been lost or stolen.
  • Lost or Stolen Passport Assistance Service We will provide the required advice on how to replace a lost or stolen passport worldwide following a named event.
  • Concierge Protect Our concierge service can provide you with details on how to spend your leisure time while in an unknown city or even try to arrange you tickets at the best theatre in town.

IDENTITY THEFT OVERVIEW:

MEANING OF WORDS
Wherever the following words and phrases (shown here in Bold) appear in Section 1 they will always have these meanings:
Scheme: Briefcase & Handbag Protect

Member or You/Your: The person who has been included in the current declaration of participants in the Scheme, together with his/her partner and their close family normally residing with them at the same address.?

Period of Service: The twelve month period commencing on the date on your schedule.

We, Our or Us: Europ Assistance Holdings Limited, Sussex House, Perrymount Road, Haywards Heath, West Sussex RH16 1DN.

THE AIMS OF THE SERVICE

If You do believe You have become a victim of identity theft within the Period of Service, We can help resolve the situation:
  • Provide You with Your own Personal ID Theft Advisor As soon as You call We will assign You to Your own dedicated expert, who will help You establish whether or not Your identity has been stolen and provide You with practical help and advice.
  • Help obtain Your Credit Report and create a Personal Action Plan Once details have been taken, Your Personal ID theft Advisor will assist in a request for Your credit report by post or real time via a dedicated website (please note there is a small charge for each credit report). Your Personal ID Theft Advisor will create and send You a Personal Action Plan including all relevant documents and explanatory notes, so You can complete the process of clearing Your name.
  • Undertake Identity Recovery and CIFAS protection If Your credit report does identify any credit agreements that You did not take out yourself, Your Personal ID Theft Advisor will work with You to correct and amend Your credit file. If appropriate We will arrange for CIFAS Protective Registration and E‐Alerts* to help You prevent future ID theft.
  • Help You gather proof of Identity If a bank or other company involved in the crime has any doubts that You were a victim of identity theft, they may require more proof. In this situation Your Personal ID Theft Advisor will help review with You all the evidence You need, this will include proof of identity documentation that fully clears Your name.

To identify if You are a potential victim the following may help You. Look out for:
Bills, invoices or receipts addressed to You for goods / services that You haven’t demanded. Bank statements or correspondence that does not arrive, or not received at all. Refusal on an application for a credit card, loan or mortgage, despite having a good credit history.
Letters from solicitors or debt collectors for debts that aren’t yours. And remember,
If You lose Your passport or driving licence or have them stolen, You may become a target.

ACCIDENTAL DAMAGE & THEFT COVER

The terms, conditions and exclusions applying to this Policy are shown below.

Please read this Policy carefully to check your cover.

Please keep your Policy and Policy schedule in a safe place as you may need to refer to them if you want to make a claim or need assistance.

If there is any difference between the information in this Policy or your Policy Schedule and what you understood to be the terms of the insurance when you chose the cover please contact the administrator immediately.

This insurance is arranged by Business Domestic Insurance Services a trading style of Motorway Direct Plc and is underwritten by UK Underwriting on behalf of:

REGISTRATION PROCESS

To take advantage of this cover on handbags and briefcases you will need to register your items on our Briefcase & Handbag Protect web site: www.businessanddomestic.co.uk

In return for the payment of your premium we will provide insurance for your briefcase or handbag and its contents during the period of cover subject to the terms, conditions, and limitations shown below or as amended in writing by us. This Policy only covers briefcases and handbags up to a value of £500 and £500 in total per calendar year. If you have items over this value then you should seek alternative cover for them as they will not be covered in the event of a claim on this policy.

DEFINITIONS

The words and phrases defined below have the same meaning wherever they appear in Section 2.

Accidental Damage ‐ Sudden and unexpected damage occurring at a specific time and caused by external means
Administrator ‐ your Policy is administered by Adminicle Limited on behalf of Business & Domestic Insurance Services. Adminicle Limited, Callidus House, Cirencester Business Park, Love Lane, Cirencester, Gloucestershire GL7 1XD. Telephone number 01285 886600. Adminicle Limited is authorized and regulated by the Financial Services Authority (FSA Ref. No. 304375.) Contents ‐ the items contained in the briefcase or handbag at the time of the incident that are your property and responsibility up to a combined value of £400 including VAT a maximum per individual item is £75 including VAT subject to a minimum individual item limit of £10 including VAT. We may ask for proof of purchase in support of any claim.
Briefcase or handbag– the items insured by this Policy, purchased by you and that remains your property or responsibility for the duration of the policy.
Immediate family – an individual who resides at the same permanent address as you and which has one of the following relationships: your mother, father, son, daughter, spouse, domestic partner.
Period of cover – 12 months from the date of purchase of this cover.
Reasonable precautions – all measures that it would be reasonable to expect a person to take in the circumstances to prevent damage to or theft of your briefcase or handbag and or contents.
Replacement ‐ this policy offers replacement as new. If the briefcase or handbag and or contents cannot be replaced with an identical briefcase or handbag and or contents, we will replace it with one of comparable specification or the equivalent value at our discretion.
Unattended – not within your sight at all times and out of your arms‐length reach.
We, us, our – UK Underwriting Ltd, on behalf of Fortis Insurance Limited
You, your – the person, who owns the briefcase or handbag and or contents as stated in the schedule.
WHAT WE WILL COVER
A. The costs of repairing your briefcase or handbag as a result of accidental damage, water or liquid damage or malicious damage.
B. If your briefcase or handbag and contents is stolen we will replace it. Contents will only be covered if they are stolen at the same time as the handbag or briefcase.

WHAT WE WILL NOT COVER
Your briefcase or handbag and or contents is not covered for:
1. Any claim made within the first 30 days of the first period of cover
2. Theft:
  • from any commercial vehicle, convertible or soft topped vehicle;
  • from any motor vehicle where you are not in the vehicle, unless the briefcase or handbag and or contents has been concealed in a locked boot, locked glove compartment or other locked internal compartment and all the vehicle’s windows and doors closed and locked and all security systems have been activated;
  • if left on any motor vehicle roof, bonnet or boot;
  • from any type of transport except as permitted above;
  • from any building, land or premises unless force, resulting in damage to the building or premises, was used to gain entry or exit;
  • from your control or the control of any member of your immediate family, except where it is being held and not left unattended, or the use of physical force or violence against the person has been used or threatened;
  • where the briefcase or handbag and or contents has been left unattended when it is away from your home;
  • where reasonable precautions have not been taken;
3. Loss or damage caused by:
  • you deliberately damaging or neglecting the briefcase or handbag and or contents;
  • you not following the manufacturer’s instructions;
4. Repair or other costs for:
  • loss caused by a manufacturer’s defect or recall of the briefcase or handbag;
  • replacement of or adjustment to fittings,;
  • repairs carried out by persons not authorised to do so by us;
  • wear and tear, gradual deterioration, moths, vermin weather or atmospheric conditions;
5. Any kind of damage whatsoever unless the damaged briefcase or handbag and or contents is provided for repair.
6. Any expense incurred as a result of not being able to use the briefcase or handbag and or contents, or any loss other than the repair or replacement costs of the briefcase or handbag and or contents.
7. The first £40 of each claim
8. Any civil unrest, terrorism, nuclear radiation or contamination from nuclear waste or any related event, or any act related to war
9. Any handbag or briefcase with a value over £500 at the time a claim is made.
10. Accidental damage to contents.

CONDITIONS AND LIMITATIONS
1. Unless we have agreed otherwise the laws of England and Wales will govern this contract and the courts of England and Wales will have jurisdiction to hear any disputes regarding your policy.
2. This insurance only covers a briefcase or handbag and or contents bought and used in the UK, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands. Cover is extended to include use of the briefcase or handbag and or contents anywhere in the world up to a maximum of 30 days in total, in any single 12 month period, subject to any repairs being carried out in the UK by repairers approved by us.
3. You must provide us with any receipts, documents or proof of purchase, that it is reasonable for us to request.
4. This insurance may only be altered, varied or its conditions altered or premium changed by giving you 30 days notice in writing.
5. We may cancel the Policy by giving you 30 days notice in writing. In the event of any claim you are responsible for the payment of any outstanding premium.
6. You cannot transfer the insurance to someone else or to any other briefcase or handbag and or contents without our written permission.
7. You must take all reasonable precautions to prevent any loss or damage.
8. Cover excludes costs or payments recoverable from any party, under the terms of any other contract, guarantee, warranty, or insurance.
9. In respect of monthly policies if the Direct Debit premium payment is cancelled or unsuccessful at any given point, no benefits will be due whatsoever.

CANCELLATION


We hope you are happy with the cover this Policy provides. However, if after reading this Policy, this insurance does not meet with your requirements, please return it to the administrator within 14 fourteen days of issue and we will refund your premium. We will not be bound to accept renewal of any insurance and may at any time cancel any insurance document by sending 14 days notice to you at your last known address. Provided the premium has been paid in full you will be entitled to a proportionate rebate of premium in respect of the unexpired period showing on the Insurance.

CLAIMS PROCEDURE


1. you must:
  • notify the administrator on 01285 886600 as soon as possible but in any event within 48 hours of any incident likely to give rise to a claim under this insurance;
  • report the theft of any briefcase or handbag and or contents to the Police within 24 hours of discovery and obtain a crime reference number in support of a theft claim;
  • provide us with details of the claim and any other contract, guarantee, warranty or insurance that may apply to the loss including but not limited to household insurance. Where appropriate a rateable proportion of the claim may be recovered direct from these insurers.
2. If we replace your briefcase or handbag and or contents the damaged or lost item becomes ours. If it is returned or found you must notify us and send it to us if we ask you to. To help us improve our service we may record or monitor telephone calls.
3. UK Underwriting Limited is an agent of Fortis Insurance Limited and in the matters of a claim act on their behalf.

COMPENSATION SCHEME


Fortis Insurance Limited is covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). You may be entitled to compensation from the scheme, if they cannot meet their obligations. This depends on the type of business and the circumstances of the claim. Most insurance contracts are covered for 100% of the first £2,000 and 90% of the remainder of the claim. 13. DATA PROTECTION ACT

The Data supplied by you will be treated in confidence and will become part of the personalised data held by us and the administrator who may use it for research, statistical analysis and administration purposes. Your personal data will not be disclosed except where permitted by law, or where it is necessary to administer your Policy effectively. We may disclose the data you have supplied to other third parties such as other insurers, Where you have given your consent or not opted out, your data may be shared with any company from time to time forming part of the Motorway Direct group of companies and other selected third parties who may use it for research and marketing purposes. You may be contacted by mail, telephone, fax, email, automated calling services or other reasonable method with details of products or services offered by one of the above.

The administrator will collect sensitive information when you make a claim and we cannot offer you this insurance unless you give the administrator permission to collect and use sensitive information. Sensitive information which the administrator collects will only be used when you make a claim.

Sensitive information under the Data Protection Act 1998 includes health records.

The Data Protection Act 1998 gives you the right to a copy of your personal data held by us upon payment of a fee.

CONCIERGE SERVICE

Concierge Services is an additional benefit to the Briefcase and Handbag Protect Insurance. This service is free to you as a policy holder. Contactable by telephone on 0208 080 0302 you will have access to a wide range of services and assistance. Although we utilize the services of preferred third party suppliers, it is totally independent and does not receive any commission payments thus allowing us to find the best possible customer solution in every instance. Our advisors are renowned for achieving the almost impossible on a regular basis. By calling our Concierge Service you can find for instance; about how to spend your leisure time while in an unknown city or even try to arrange you tickets at the best show, restaurant, theatre whilst you’re in town. It can also save you time and effort at home ‐ whether you need to know who to call to get your garden back in to order or household chores such as decorating, ironing, cleaning; or if you need local information about which schools, doctors, specialt y shops, baby‐sitters & community services are available; or you might even want to know where you can enroll for the local photographic club! The Concierge Service can assist, giving you the freedom to enjoy your spare time. In fact almost any information you need can be sourced by your own personal Concierge.
